Eiljah - God is Jehovah (June 2011)
1 Kings 17
For the last few weeks, I have been recovering from surgery. As I laid in
bed, the Lord gave me an excellent opportunity to do a study on one of the
most remarkable men in the Bible. This man is none other than the Prophet Elijah,
whose name means "God Is - Jehovah".
As I started to do this study from I Kings 17, I began to notice some things
about this account that I had never seen before.
The name Elijah means God Is Jehovah; also speaks to me: "God Is", God Is whatever you need
him to be in your life. In a time such as this, what do we need God to
be in our lives? There is a song that we sing in our church entitled, "God
Is". God is the joy and the strength of my life, he moves all pain, misery
and strife. I want to go with him, when he comes back. I have come too far,
and I'll never turn back. God is.
Jehovah, is his name; the all powerful God, who is. It does not take our belief in God for
him to exist. He is, was and ever shall be. This God, who is, is the one
that Elijah served.
After Elijah had spoken a prophecy to Ahab, God told him to go and hide himself
by a certain brook, and there He would feed and care for him. What is so wonderful about this
account is how Elijah came to the exact place where God told him to go that he
might receive his blessing.
I could not help but wonder; is it possible that we have not received the
fullness of our blessing because we have not come to that place where God has
called us, in order to receive the fullness of our blessing?
Can you imagine being in a place where you are so in touch with the Lord, that
he would have the birds bring you food instead of them coming to you
looking for you to feed them?
Sometimes, I go to the lake, and I notice how people will often do what they
are not supposed to do. The sign reads: "Do Not Feed the Ducks", but still
some feed them anyway. However, to date, I have never seen a duck bring bread
to anyone in the park.
It's not the ducks' fault they do not feed us with bread as much as I
consider maybe we are not in the place God has called us in order to receive
all that He has for us.
